ACH Universal > Mapping > Mapping Profiles Overview
During the mapping process, fields in your source files are defined according to their purpose. By doing so, ACH Universal is able to effectively and accurately translate your data into an ACH file. Mapping is necessary because ACH Universal conforms to your data. It is not required that amount or payee name be in any specific order in your source files. Mapping provides the instructions to ACH Universal on the location of each field.
A profile is a collection of information about a customer, employee, or vendor that is going to rarely change, such as name, account number, and vendor ID. After importing a profile, ACH Universal retains them for all future use.
Steps
At this point, you have imported a profile source file and are at the Profile Import Wizard Mapping screen (Figure 1 below).
In the upper right is the name of this template. In this case, the template is named Customers Plus. ACH Universal will automatically save your mappings. To reuse mappings (saving time for file formats that are always the same), use the same mapping template each time.
The grid shows a sample of your data file. In this case, you can see fields representing a Vendor Code/ Description, Account Number, ABA Number, and Email Address.
In the table below are the minimum fields required to be mapping for ACH file purposes, and the names ACH Universal uses for these fields. Map the fields from the file (left column below) to ACH Universal fields (right column below).
It is not required to map both ACH_Name_Internal and ACH_ID_Internal. A profile lookup will be done on one of these fields as specified in ACH Setup. By default, the lookup will be done the name field. However, it is recommended to import both if they are available. This allows for retention, as well as the possibility of changing the lookup method later if needed. See Changing Profile Lookup Field for information on changing from one profile lookup method to the other.
