Deciding What to Map |

Bank Reconciliation > Mapping Your Data > Deciding What to Map Why do I need to map the data? Mapping translates your internal data name into a name the software knows. Without this step, Bank Reconciliation will not know, for example, if a field holds transaction date or check number.
Choosing fields
For the most part, you can map any or all of the fields you want. You are not required to map every field.
However, the following fields are required:
Description is suggested but not required.
The Selection Process
1. Decide which fields need to be imported (typically date, check number, amount and description).
In some situations, amounts in the source file are absolute (positive) even though they all decrease the account balance. In others, all transactions have absolute amounts, but some transactions decrease rather than increase the balance. See Selecting fields to represent amount for information on making this decision.
2. Decide which fields you want to retain that map directly to a Bank Reconciliation field.
2. Decide which fields you want to retain and map those to a Bank Reconciliation Text field.
For example, you may wish to retain currency type. As there is no exact field in Bank Reconciliation, you could use Text1 or Text3. There are 5 such fields available for your use.
By default, Bank Reconciliation will use a date format of MM/DD/YYYY which also includes M/D/YYYY. If you need a different format, see Changing the date format
Note 1: For some accounts (e.g. depository) check numbers are not a part of the transaction. To accommodate such a possibility, it is possible to turn off the check number requirement.
Note 2: For some data, Amount is actually represented by two separate fields, usually referred to as Debit and Credit. Whether the value increases or decreases the balance depends on context (bank or general ledger). See Debit versus Credit for more information.
